Recently, the government announced Canada’s first-ever National Food Security Strategy, an important step toward making food more affordable, strengthening our local economy, and ensuring we can rely on Canadian farmers to feed Canadian families. Here in Carleton, we know the value of local agriculture. Our producers work incredibly hard, yet too often face barriers in getting their products to market at competitive prices. One of the most promising parts of this new strategy is a $1 billion investment in food terminals and food hubs. These facilities will help connect farmers directly with buyers, from independent grocers to community organizations, reducing reliance on large retail chains and making it easier for locally grown food to reach your table.
